Shì 是,是	Is, yes	Tā shì lăoshī. "Nǐ shì ma?" "Shì."	He is a teacher. "Are you?" "Yes." (Exp. After “sh,” “ch,” and “zh,” “I” is pronounced ‘‘er.”)
Bù 不,不	No, not
Hěn 很 ,很	Very	Wǒ hěn hăo. Hěn guì a!	I’m very well. Very expensive. (Exp. A! is an expletive.)
Gěi 给,給	Give	Tā gěi wǒ sānge.	He gave me three. (Exp. "Ge’" means "pieces.")
Shì bushì 是不是,是不是	Yes or not? Right?	"Nǐ shì bushì Měiguórén?" "Wǒ shì." Tā bú shì.	"Are you an American?" "I am." (Lit. You are aren't an American?) He is not. (Lit. He not is.)
